Bart Bowlin holds a BA from the University of North Alabama and a Master of Divinity from Asbury Seminary. Bart has been a pastor in the North Alabama Conference since 1991. As a participant and mentor in the Institute for Clergy Excellence, Bart has traveled to Israel, Jordan, Scotland, Hawaii, and several US locations for study purposes. Bart is married to Liz. Together they have five children and a foster-son. In his spare time, Bart enjoys boating and Bama football. Roll Tide!
Chris Weldon is the associate pastor of St. James United Methodist Church. He organizes and preaches The Gate, our weekly contemporary service. He teaches Wednesday evening classes, and performs other pastoral services as needed for our church family and for the community. Chris has been a licensed minister for over 20 years. He has a Bachelor of Science from Mississippi State University and a Master of Divinity from Wesley Biblical Seminary. He has been married to his wife, Julie, for 19 years. They have two sons.
Director of Nursery Ministry
Joan Meyer has been the baby whisperer of St. James for more than 15 years. Babies learn her name before any other at our church. Joan is married to Joe Meyer.
Director of Children's Ministry
Brandi loves to serve the Lord and she has always been a kid magnet. As the two combined, she found her passion by becoming the Director of Children's Ministry at St. James UMC. Brandi's desire is that as the children learn tools to defend their faith and build a personal relationship with Christ, they will also build strong relationships with each other. Brandi is the wife to Jimmy and mother to three year old, Jaxton. At home she plays with Jaxton and their dog, Bojo, she cheers for Alabama Football and she loves to write poems. "My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ." Colossians 2:2
Director of Youth Ministry
Clayton Grider holds a B.S. degree in Secondary Education- English/Language Arts from the University of North Alabama, M.Div. degree from Asbury Theological Seminary, and is clergy in the Order of Deacon in the United Methodist Church. Clayton has served in Youth Ministry for over a decade and now uses his ministry gifts as a teacher in public education. He is married to Kristin and they have two sons, Micah and Benjamin. Aside from the joy Clayton has for teaching people about Jesus, he is also known for his musical talents and love of cheesy jokes.
Director of Middle School Ministry
Meredith McClanahan has been a teacher for 15 years, 12 of those years were spent teaching 5th grade. She recently decided to combine her love of teaching with her love for the Lord! Her passion led her to become the Middle School Director, a new ministry at St. James UMC. Meredith is the wife of John McClanahan, who has been a member of St. James UMC since childhood, and mother of two. She loves traveling, reading, and all things Auburn!!
Patsy is a retired elementary school teacher. She was married to the late Danny Killen. Together they have two sons. Patsy is active in the Alabama Emmaus Community. At St. James UMC, Patsy directs the choir and praise team for the traditional service. She also leads part of the congregational singing. In her spare time, Patsy enjoys singing in the Florence Camerata and traveling to Paraguay.
Jennifer graduated from the University of North Alabama with a degree in vocal/choral music. Jennifer has held various positions from leading church choirs to teaching high school chorus. She has taught in both public and private schools in the Shoals. Jennifer’s husband, Scott, is also a musician. Together they have traveled while sharing their love of God and music. They have been blessed with a precious daughter, Lauren. Jennifer also holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership & Administration from the University of North Alabama. She is a licensed professional counselor and loves being a part of helping others while seeing God unfold His plan in their lives.
Kendrick has been a church organist for over forty years. He is a native of the Shoals area, a graduate of the University of North Alabama, and a retired educator. He and his wife have a daughter, son-in-law, and one granddaughter.
Vanessa has been the pianist at St. James for over 20 years. She provides piano accompaniment for the morning and evening traditional worship services as well as choir rehearsal. Vanessa is also the school counselor at a local public school where she works with 7th and 8th grade students. Vanessa is wife to Larry, mom to Evan and step mom to Payton.
Gale has been the secretary at St. James for 16 years. She is married to Jim Humphries. They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. In her spare time, Gale loves to spend time with her husband, play with the grandchildren, do yard work, and read.
Assistant to Director of Children's Ministry
Julia has been a member of St. James for 18 years and has been serving with the children of St. James since 2012. She has a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education and has taught elementary school for 33 years. Julia has two beautiful daughters and a diva dog named Daisy.
Assistant to Choir Director
Larry Ricketts was a band director for THIRTY-TWO YEARS! He served at Rogers High School for eleven years, Coffee High School for eighteen years, and the Freshman Center for another three years. Larry's love of music is evident in his passionate conducting. As the assistant choir director at St. James UMC, Larry leads congregational singing regularly and choir anthems occasionally.
